As part of our ongoing commitment to excellence and safety in all our landscaping projects, we are excited to share the latest updates to our training schedule
Ensuring our team is well-trained on the plant and equipment used in the field is crucial, not only for the quality of our work but also for the health and safety of everyone involved.
Proper training on the equipment used in our projects is a cornerstone of our operations and this training is vital for several reasons.
- Health and safety: Understanding the correct operation of machinery reduces the risk of accidents and injuries. Our team’s wellbeing is our top priority, and comprehensive training ensures everyone knows how to handle equipment safely.
- Efficiency: Well-trained staff can operate equipment more efficiently, leading to increased productivity and better project outcomes.
- Maintenance and longevity: Proper use of equipment minimises wear and tear, extending the lifespan of our tools and reducing maintenance costs.
Training needs are identified and agreed upon during our routine Performance and Development Reviews (PDR)
These reviews are a critical component of our staff development strategy. During PDRs, each team member discusses their current competencies, identifies areas for improvement and sets goals for future training. This personalised approach ensures that training is relevant and aligned with both individual career aspirations and the company’s operational needs.
To track and manage our training programmes, we utilise a comprehensive competency matrix. This tool enables us to monitor the progress of each team member, ensuring they are up to date with the necessary skills and certifications. The competency matrix provides a clear overview of who has completed which training modules and highlights any gaps that need addressing. This systematic approach helps us maintain high standards across all our projects.
Summer training programme
We have focused on several critical training areas:
- Site Management Safety Training Scheme: The SMSTS course is designed for site managers, agents and anyone who is or will be responsible for planning, organising, monitoring, controlling or administering groups of staff. This training will equip participants with the knowledge to manage health and safety on-site effectively, in compliance with legal requirements and best practices.
- Tree inspections: Proper tree inspection is essential for identifying potential hazards and maintaining the health of our landscapes. This training will cover techniques for assessing tree conditions and implementing necessary interventions.
- Forklift truck driving: Safe and efficient forklift operation is crucial for handling materials on-site. The training will include both theoretical and practical components to ensure thorough understanding.
- Avant telehandler operation: The Avant telehandler is a versatile piece of equipment used in various landscaping tasks. Training will cover safe operation, maintenance, and practical applications.
Looking ahead, we’ll be progressing with refresher training on quad bikes
These vehicles are essential for navigating large and rugged landscapes efficiently, and training will focus on safe driving practices, maintenance and operational techniques.
We are dedicated to the continuous improvement of our team’s skills and knowledge. By investing in training, we not only enhance the quality of our work but also ensure a safe and productive environment for all team members. Our commitment to training and the team’s enthusiasm in participating in these training sessions are vital to our collective success.
