Comprehensive plan for Japanese knotweed elimination

The Swattenden Centre is a key revenue-generating site for Kent County Council. Through its partnership with Skanska, we deliver a range of soft landscaping services at this location. During a regular visit, our project management team identified a sizeable infestation of Japanese knotweed in an area of significant site user traffic.

We set out a comprehensive plan for Japanese knotweed management and set about its elimination as a top priority. After an initial process of stem injecting, the results have been very positive, but in line with the management plan, we will return to assess any further treatment needs.

We aim to provide this type of proactive approach for all clients, identifying issues before they become problematic and economically challenging to rectify.

The management plan spans a period of time, with treatments of the plant taking place in spring and autumn. It is not expected that the plant will die completely in one year, but our aim is to reduce its size by 50% with each treatment. It may take two or three years to die off completely with two treatments per year, if necessary.
