Installation of bat and bird boxes

One of the ways to support biodiversity is to create habitats that encourage wildlife to thrive. Bird and bat boxes are an excellent way to do this. They provide safe nesting and roosting sites for key species whose natural habitats may have been reduced by urban growth.

The installation of bird and bat boxes requires careful planning and ecological understanding. The RSK Countryside Management team works alongside ecologists to ensure every installation meets requirements and regulatory standards.

Purchasing

RSK Countryside Management will procure the correct and most appropriate bat or bird box in line with current legislation or in accordance with any planning conditions or requirements defined within the scope or specification.

Positioning and installation

Positioning of bat and bird boxes is critical. Boxes should be installed at the correct height and orientation to ensure the appropriate temperature and light conditions and should be situated within or near flight paths. Bat boxes are located to optimise microclimate and avoid light disturbance. Bird boxes are positioned with predator protection in mind.
