Wild flower and grassland management
Why is wild flower and grassland management important?
Grasslands, large or small, can be very important for wildlife, providing a haven for a wide range of wild flowers, birds, animals and invertebrates. With sensitive management, this wildlife can be encouraged and conserved. Without management, grasslands become invaded by vigorous weeds, rank grasses and scrub that out compete wild flowers. Eventually scrub may completely take over, resulting in the loss of a valuable refuge for wild flowers and the wildlife they support.
The exact management requirements of an area of grassland not only vary with the site location but also with the species present. So before any work is started, it is important to survey the grassland to find out what wild flowers are already there. Meadows containing rare plants will need particularly careful management and we are always happy to offer advice.
