Solar farm landscaping and maintenance
Solar farm landscaping
We work with our clients and other RSK Group businesses to undertake solar farm landscaping. This includes a range of services that are undertaken to keep the site efficient, safe, visually acceptable and compliant with regulations.
Before the solar panels are installed, we work with our clients to provide all aspects of ecological and physical landscaping. This can include the initial site clearance, ecological mitigation, levelling and rut removal, seeding, drainage, planting and screening and ongoing grounds maintenance.
- Grass cutting/mowing
- Strimming/brush cutting
- Weed control
- Tree and shrub clearance
- Invasive species management
Biodiversity net gain assessments
We offer biodiversity net gain (BNG) assessments and proposals and our team can support with the creation and management of landscape environmental management plans (LEMP). We can then quote for and carry out all associated works to help you achieve your BNG improvements.
- Wild flower meadow creation
- Hedge and tree planting
- Habitat creation
- BNG assessments and proposals
Solar farm maintenance
Our ongoing solar farm maintenance packages are designed to keep sites safe, efficient and well-maintained. Our expert team delivers year-round maintenance to prevent shading and protect equipment. We help maximise the solar farm’s output while reducing the risk of damage, fire hazards and avoidable downtime.
Beyond routine care, we support our clients in meeting planning and environmental commitments through biodiversity enhancement, habitat creation and ecological monitoring. Whether by establishing wild flower meadows, maintaining visual screening or ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, we provide tailored landscaping solutions that enhance both performance and sustainability. With a proactive approach and a strong focus on reliability, our services safeguard the long-term value and appearance of your solar farm.
Our ongoing solar farm maintenance packages
With the ability to mow 300 mm under the dripline with all machinery and the ability to mow up to the solar panel supports with a specialist mowing unit capable of operating in narrow or more confined spaces.
Inclusive of full hedge management or seasonal rotation, with reporting, e.g., 1/3 cut (front/rear/top) and surrounding tree works/surveys. This enables site security to be maintained and will stop any shading from occurring on the solar arrays, while ensuring LEMP compliance.
In accordance with LEMP requirements.
This can include the planting and maintaining of native wildflowers and the installation of hibernacula, beehives, reptile habitats, bird nest boxes and bat boxes at the site with location data provided in our reports.
Blanket and spot spraying under panels, between the rows and in any other areas on-site, using selective and non-selective herbicides as necessary to keep weeds under control.
Demonstrating compliance with LEMP requirements through the duration of our works.
Locations throughout the UK.
Inclusive of stock fencing installation.
Notifying you of any defects or non-conformance, while providing you with a plan to rectify and correct.
This is to ensure our work on solar sites is delivered to a consistently high standard throughout, while conforming to the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.
Solar farm site preparation
We have completed multiple projects ranging from 1000 to 15,000 plants all staked and protected with biodegradable spiral guards. On sites that have livestock, we have also fenced these planted areas off from the livestock to protect the plants, using stock-proof fencing and access gates.
In addition to grassland and wild flower seeding using traditional methods and machinery, we now offer a hydroseeding service for areas not compatible with traditional methods, such as slopes and banks. We also offer ongoing maintenance of any services that we provide, such as mowing and herbicide application to grasslands and hedgerow maintenance (maintaining a grass-free area between planting, re-staking plants, counting failures for replanting and replacing missing or damaged guards).
- Cultivation and seeding of grassland and wild flower meadows
- Planting of new hedgerows, trees and woodland buffers
- Installation of stock0proof fencing, security fencing and access gates
- Creation of swales/maintenance or reinstatement of existing swales
- Installation of access tracks throughout the site
- Consultation of existing plans to ensure they make sense on a practical level
